Saturday Workshop programme

£85 per person
A series of monthly one day ceramics workshops to try your hand at a new skill or refine an existing one. Each workshop has it’s own theme and is a great introduction to clay or chance to concentrate on improving a particular technique.
The next Saturday workshop is on 29th February and will be inspired by ‘Game.’ Maybe a sculptural form inspired by a favourite game or a literal game board and pieces, this is a great workshop to explore hand building in clay with a potential to focus on modelling techniques.
This workshop will give you the chance to learn the basics of hand building in clay or, for the more experienced, to push the clay to its limits.
Each workshop is followed by a 2 hour glazing workshop 2 or 3 weeks later. All workshops are based at Paula Armstrong Ceramics studio, Fenstanton, are suitable for beginners to the more experienced and include all materials and firings.

Glazing with Commercial Brush-On Glazes Workshop
Saturday 28th March
£50 per person
A new workshop to explore the glazing process using commercial brush-on glazes. After running through the principles of the tiles and testing process, we’ll use a set of test tiles to try out different glaze combinations aiming for a particular type of finish. The tiles will be fired so you see see how they come out. Testing usually takes more than one iteration but this workshop will give you the basics to continue the process yourself.
In addition we’ll look at glaze additions and possible effects, talk through the process of firing a kiln, consider what happens to a glaze when it’s fired and look at common glaze ‘faults’ and their possible causes. We’ll also run through aspects of health & safety that should be considered when using glazes.
The cost includes materials and firing. I have over 100 different brush-on glazes made by different manufacturers that can be used for testing. Each participant will also have a set of 20 test tiles to use, a notebook that will become your glaze book and a set of reminder notes on all the aspects we work through during the afternoon.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone the studio on 01480 700280 to book a place.
This workshop is not about making your own glazes.
